WHO WE ARE
The GS Legal Department (“GS Legal”) plays an essential role in the formulation and implementation of the strategy of GS. The advice and counsel provided by GS Legal to all areas of the firm is critical to maintaining the firm’s commitments to its clients, regulators, and shareholders and to promoting its culture of excellence and integrity. GS Legal’s goal is to provide advice that protects the firm’s financial well-being and reputation, and assists the various businesses in executing transactions and evaluating the associated risks.
The role will be based in Singapore and you will be reporting to an Executive Director in the Global Markets Legal team based in Hong Kong. Global Markets in Asia (ex Japan) includes the fixed income, currencies and commodities (or FICC), equity derivatives, sales and trading businesses (including cash equities, listed options, futures and facilitation) and Private Investor Products Group (including retail and wholesale structured products). Responsibilities include providing advice and guidance to our structurers, traders and sales people on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters across Global Markets.
Key responsibilities are as follows:
- Providing legal advice to Global Markets on financings, derivatives, commodities and securities transactions and documentation
- Leading negotiations on documentation relating to all aspects of Global Markets’ business including financing transactions, commodities, structured derivatives confirmations, termsheets and securities offering documents
- Advising on regulatory matters impacting Global Markets (including global and local derivative regulations such as uncleared margin rules)
- Preparing, maintaining and updating precedent legal documentation and agreements to incorporate changes in applicable law and regulations, Goldman Sachs offshore policy or changes in market practice
- Working with the Global Markets Compliance team on regulatory matters and investigations. There will also be opportunities to become involved in policy work, including representing the firm in discussions with industry bodies (in particular ISDA)
- Liaising with Legal and Compliance personnel at Goldman Sachs globally on issues relating to Global Markets
- Assisting in the preparation of materials for submission to the internal Goldman Sachs regional and global committees

BASIC Qualifications:
- Qualified derivatives or financing lawyer with minimum 6 years PQE or equivalent
- Relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel
- An ability to demonstrate a strong grounding in financing and derivative documentation, securities law and regulation
- Working knowledge of regulatory developments impacting the derivative and structured product sectors in Asia, EMEA and the US
- International experience will also be an advantage
